Remedies to Remove Skin Tags:
Certain home remedies can help remove skin tags naturally. You can apply a bandage over the area, whenever you apply any kind of paste to prevent it from falling off. Here is a list of home remedies for removing skin tags which you can try.
1. Lemon Juice:
The citric acid in lemon juice removes the dead cells. Dip a cotton ball in lemon juice and apply it over the tag. Wash it off after some time. Do this twice or thrice a week. In 2-3 weeks, you will notice that the skin tag is slowly decomposing.
2. Castor Oil:
Mix a little castor oil with baking powder to form a paste. It can be very sticky. Keep repeating the process for two to four weeks, and you will notice the skin tag disappearing slowly.
3. Dental Floss:
Another easy way to remove skin tags is by tying a dental floss around the tag. This is done to stop the blood supply to it. After a short period, you will notice that the tag has darkened, and it will fall off in 2 to 3 weeks.
4. Garlic:
Garlic is antibacterial and antifungal. Crush some fresh garlic cloves into a paste. Now, apply it over the skin tag. Wash it off. After a few days, the tag will drop off, leaving smooth skin behind.
5. Banana Peel:
Banana peel also seems effective to remove skin tag. Just cut a small portion of the peel. Apply the fibrous part of the peel on the tag. Repeat the process for a few days until the tag falls off.
6. Aspirin:
Aspirin dries off the skin. Dissolve aspirin in water to make a paste and apply it over the tag.
7. Mixed Vegetables:
Mix the juices of potato, cauliflower and garlic and apply it over the area. Repeat till the tag vanishes.
8. Nail Polish:
Apply nail polish over the area. Leave for some time and then remove it. Repeat the process 3 times a day for a few days until you see visible results.
9. Pineapple Juice:
Pineapple juice is also known to work on moles and warts. Just apply a little fresh pineapple juice on the skin tag. Repeat for a few days until your skin tag becomes invisible.
10. Onion Juice:
Soak a few pieces of onion and salt overnight. Apply the extracted juice over the area. This will remove the skin tags within a week. This is also considered to be the best skin tag removal home remedy.
Other Ways to Get Rid of Skin Tags:
There are both low cost and expensive options to remove skin tags. At the end of the day it boils down to whether you want to sweat it out at a dermatologist’s office or whether you want to try removing them at home itself. It is a decision that you have to take.
There are some medically approved methods too. However, you need to read about the pros and cons for any of the methods as complications can arise from botched or incorrect removal procedures.
1. With Scissors:
Since skin tags are generally not painful, they can be snipped off with scissors. Yes, you read correctly. They can be safely cut off with the help of scissors especially if one end of the skin tag is tied with some very fine string or even a piece of dental floss. If the idea of cutting out skin makes you shrivel then you must know that the procedure is usually done without anaesthesia.
The major disadvantage of the scissor method is the chance of bleeding and infection. The scissors used must be sterilized, but even then, there is a chance of bleeding. Care should be taken to get an experienced person to perform the actual task. It is an easy enough home remedy but is best avoided if you are not sure of how to go about it exactly.
2. Electro-Cautery or Electric Dessication:
You can choose to burn the tag with the help of electro-cautery or through electric dessication. This is a fairly painless process and is one of the more preferred ways for the removal of skin tags. A lot of people prefer this way, though slightly expensive. This is because it is done under medical supervision and does not carry the risks of infection.
3. Freezing with Liquid Nitrogen:
The tag can also be removed by freezing it with the help of liquid nitrogen and then removing it through cautery or with the help of scissors.
The major disadvantage with the electro-cautery method or the freezing process is the chance of temporary discoloration of skin. There is also a slight chance that the outgrowth won’t fall off, in which case money, time, effort and energy will all be wasted.
4. Help of Ophthalmologist:
If the skin tag is located very close to the eyes then an ophthalmologist is needed to conduct the entire exercise. Otherwise your family physician or dermatologist can do the process with ease.
5. Role of Vitamin E:
Rubbing Vitamin E oil on the skin around and over the skin tag is very important. This allows your skin to be hydrated and speeds up the healing process once the tag has fallen off. It also eases the process of decay and death of the skin tag, and keeps your skin nourished.
6. Duct Tape:
Common house duct tape can also be used to aid the removal of skin tag. You can place the duct tape and once it has loosened, chances are that the duct tape will contain the ugly bit of skin that was the skin tag. This too is an easy home remedy which can be tried without much damage. It is effective and less risky than snipping off the skin tag with scissors.
7. Compound W:
Compound W is another interesting method of removal of skin tags, since this is an acidic mixture used mainly for the removal of skin warts. Apply this on the area of the skin tag and cover it with a band aid. Once the band aid loosens, you will hopefully see skin that is free of any nasty little outgrowths.
8. Healing Mixture:
Mix together 4 drops of Apple cider vinegar and 3 drops of tea tree oil with 5 drops of fresh lemon juice. Dip a swab of cotton into this mixture and strap it to the skin tag. Repeat twice a day. In ten days or less, the skin tag will be gone!
Does the removal of skin tags increase the chance of reappearance?
There is a popular misconception that removal of skin tags causes them to grow right back. While it is true that some people are more prone to the development of these tags and require more than one removal session in a year, there is no medical evidence that links removal with reappearance. If you are lucky, removing them once will end the problem for good. If you are not lucky, well, at least the tags are harmless!
Do not fear skin tags as they are unobtrusive and painless. Never try to remove them by surgical means or by castration at home as this may cause infection and make it worse. Try these simple home remedies instead to get rid of them.
